Tom Fassaert's amazing ego documentary A Family Affair was the opening film at the IDFA documentary film festival. In the film Fassaert goes in search of the story behind his grandmother who uses a meticulously constructed façade to keep a firm grip on the lives of three generations.
Het Vertaalcollectief was tasked with providing English subtitles for the documentary within a week. As part of the process we consulted daily, at all hours, with the producer. Despite a number of technical challenges, the subtitles were finished within a week, just in time for the premiere at IDFA.
A Family Affair was seen by over 10,000 people and was awarded a Golden Calf. The film was received warmly in other countries and was praised in Variety and The Huffington Post.
