Some people say it's impossible to translate poetry. We think it is possible, as long as you ask the right translators. For the project entitled 'I want to live in European poetry' we translated over thirty poems from fifteen different languages into Dutch and English.
We visited the client in their studio to discuss the assignment and how to approach it. It was a challenge to quickly mobilize translators capable of translating poetry from languages including Romanian, Latvian and Cypriot*. Thanks to our extensive network we were able to find experts in all the languages we needed. Ultimately more than twenty translators worked on this project.
The project’s objective was to draw the attention of a wide and diverse audience to themes such as peace, refugees and democracy. The translations were displayed during a European summit throughout Amsterdam at locations such as subway stations.
